Parenting Child Care Rwanda (PCCR) trains members of families on positive parenting through parent groups and home visitation. The training covers different topics namely: Understanding of Child Development, Positive Attachment, Balanced Diet with Locally Available Sources, Participatory Hygiene and Sanitation, Gender Equity in Parent’s role: shared responsibilities, Free from Harm and Violence, Learn Through Play, Conflict Management within Families, and Numeracy and Literacy for young children. · Parenting education through parent groups. Parents having children from 0 to 6 years in a group of 30 to 40 meet twice a week for a period of three months. They learn positive parenting knowledge and skills, share experience about best and harmful practices in caring children. · Parenting education at Early Childhood Development Centers and home based ECD. Parenting Child Care Rwanda (PCCR) train and raise awareness of parents about positive parenting. The sessions are organized at ECD centers and home based ECD for parents having children enrolled in ECD services. · Parenting education through home visitation. As some parents are not able to attended parenting education sessions through groups, mostly men, Parenting Child Care Rwanda (PCCR) organizes home visitation to meet parents in order to train them on positive parenting.

The ECD project implemented by PCCR intends to increase access to quality early childhood services through establishment of ECD centers and home based ECD. We construct ECD centers attached to existing primary and 12 years basic education schools. The purpose is to allow disadvantaged children to access early child hood services. Each center has the capacity to accommodate 108 children between 3 to 6 years old. The ECD center is composed of stimulation rooms/classrooms, teachers’ room, multipurpose hall, kitchen, toilets for children and adults. It is equipped with kitchen materials, furniture, teaching and learning materials including toys, outdoor play facilities and reading materials. We create and support home based ECD. The home based ECD is a selected home at village level where 10 to 15 households bring their children from 1.5 to 6 years to a selected home who are cared by trained caregivers. At home based ECD, children learn to read and write, learn songs and games, interact with others and have balance diet, hygiene and sanitation, develop values. This leads to physical, cognitive, social emotional and language development. Established ECD centers and home based ECD are equipped with teaching and learning materials including toys, outdoor play facilities, reading materilas, hygiene and sanitation materials. In addition, parenting Child Care Rwanda (PCCR) organizes material making sessions at both ECD centers and home based ECD where parents, teachers come together and make teaching and learning materials using locally available resources to promote play base learning. We organize trainings for teachers in ECD centers, school leaders and school General Assembly Committee members. We train teachers and school leaders on competence based pre-primary curriculum, methodologies for teaching and caring young children. School general assembly committee members are training on their role in promoting early childhood development and management of ECD centers. We train parents/caregivers on home based ECD approaches and management.

To fight against malnutrition among children, We mobilize and support the local communities to set up Vegetable Gardens for growing vegetables and fruits. We organize cooking demonstration, provide chicken for eggs and cooking items. We train parents on best nutrition practices using locally available resources.
